Google AdSense program is a popular web advertising program which provides a good income source for many websites. There are well defined terms of service to strictly adhere to when participating in the program.

On my visit through sites and forums, I daily notice several instances of misuse of AdSense ads. So here a few helpful Google AdSense tips, probably many you already know, and few you might gain by knowing now. These AdSense faq are all picked from the Program Policies, Terms and Conditions and FAQ itself and presented in a simplified manner.

1. Never click your own AdSense ads or get them clicked for whatever reason. You know this one very well. This is a surefire way to close you AdSense account. Never tell your office associates or friends to click on them. Keep a check if your family or children are busy increasing your income by clicking your ads and indirectly trying to stop your income. Don't even think of offering incentives for clicks, using automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. AdSense is very smart to detect fraudulent clicks. Check the ads which appear on your pages by the Google Preview tool if required.

2. Never change the AdSense code. There are enough means of AdSense optimization & customizations available to change the colour, background or border to suit your needs. Do whatever you want to do outside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code. They know it when you do. The search code has more limitations to colour and placement, but you should adhere to the rules. The code may stop working and violates the TOS.

3. Do not place more than 3 ad units and 3 ad links or 2 AdSense search boxes on any web page. Anyway, ads will not appear in those units even if you place more ad units. But this is the limit they set, so it is better to stick to it.

4. Do not run competitive contextual text ad or search services on the same site which offer Google AdSense competition in their field. Never try to create link structures resembling the AdSense ads. Never use other competitive search tools on the same pages which have AdSense powered Google search. They do allow affiliate or limited-text links. Update: Google has allowed you to run contextual advertising like Yahoo ads, Chitika etc provided the ads do not resemble AdSense ads.

5. Do not disclose confidential information about your account like the CTR, CPM and income derived via individual ad units or any other confidential information they may reveal to you. However, you may reveal the total money you make as per recent updates to the TOS.

6. Label headings as "sponsored links" or "advertisements" only. Other labels are not allowed. I have seen many sites label ads with other titles. Dont make your site a target in a few seconds gaze.

7. Never launch a New Page for clicked ads by default. AdSense ads should open on the same page. You may be using a base target tag to open all links in a new window or frame by default. Correct it now as they do not want new pages opening from clicked ads.

8. One Account suffices for multiple websites. You do not need to create 5 accounts for 5 different websites. One account will do. If you live in the fears that if one account is closed down for violation of TOS, believe me they will close all accounts when they find out. You can keep track of clicks by using channels with real time statistics. They will automatically detect the new site and display relevant ads.

9. Place ads only on Content Pages. Advertisers pay only for content based ads. Content drives relevant ads. Although you might manage some clicks from error, login, registration, "thank you" or welcome pages, parking pages or pop ups, it will get you out of the program.

10. Do not mask ad elements. Alteration of colours and border is a facility to blend or contrast ads as per your site requirements. I have seen many sites where the url part is of the same colour as the background. While blending the ad with your site is a good idea, hiding relevant components of the ads is not allowed. Also do not block the visibility of ads by overlapping images, pop ups, tables etc.

11. Do not send your ads by email. Html formatted emails look good and allow placement of these javascript ads. But it is not allowed as per TOS. You do not want impressions registering on their logs from any email even once. They are watching!

12. Keep track of your content. So AdSense is not allowed on several non content pages. But it is also not allowed on several content pages too. Do not add it on web pages with MP3, Video, News Groups, and Image Results. Also exclude any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content.

13. Do not alter the results after ad clicks or searches - Ensure you are not in any way altering the site which the user reaches to after clicking the ads. Do not frame, minimize, remove, redirect or otherwise inhibit the full and complete display of any Advertiser Page or Search Results Page after the user clicks on any Ad or Search results.

14. Avoid excessive advertising and keyword stuffing - Although the definition of 'excessive' is a gray area and is subject to discretion, yet Google AdSense with correct placement, focused content and high traffic will get you much more income than other programs, so excessive advertising is not required. Keyword stuffing does target better focused ads, but overdoing it is not required.

15. Ensure you Language is Supported - AdSense supports "Chinese (simplified), Japanese, Danish, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, English, Polish, Finnish, Portuguese, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Hungarian, Swedish, Italian and Turkish. In addition, AdSense for search is available in Czech, Slovak, and Traditional Chinese. If your web pages language is not supported, do not use the code on such pages.

16. Maximum 2 referral button per product per page - With the launch of the Google AdSense referral program, you are allowed to put only 2 referral buttons for AdSense referral, AdWords referral, Google pack and Firefox with Google toolbar referral.

17. Do not specify Google ads as your alternate ads. - Several services like Chitika eminimalls allow you to place alternate urls, when a targeted paying ad cannot be displayed. This involved creating an simple html page and putting the ad to be displayed instead. Even AdSense allows an alternate url feature instead of displaying public service ads. But never use AdSense ads as alternate urls.

18. Do not confuse with adjacent images - It was a common policy to increase CTR by placing same number of images as the number of text ads, which falsely gave the impression that the text ads represented an explanation to these images. Inserting a small space or a line between the images and ads is not allowed. Make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors.

Reading a few forums and blogs about Google AdSense tips lately, and thought it would be helpful to consolidate as many as possible in one place without the comments. I've also thrown in a few tips of my own. We start out with some of the basic general stuff and move to the more specific topics later on.When you're deciding to become a website publisher you will fall into one of two broad categories:

· Publish 100 websites that each earn $1 a day profit
· Publish 1 website that earns $100 a day profit

The reality of it is, most people end up somewhere in between. Having 100 websites leaves you with maintenance, management and content issues. Having one website leaves you open to all sort of fluctuations (search engines algorithm's, market trends, etc). You can adapt your plan on the way, but you'll have an easier time if you start out going in the direction of where you want to end up.

General or Niche

You can build your website around general topics or niche ones. Generally speaking niche websites work better with AdSense. First off the ad targeting is much better. Secondly as you have a narrow focus your writing naturally becomes more expert in nature. Hopefully this makes you more authority in your field.

If this is your first try at building an AdSense website, make it about something you enjoy. It will make the process much easier and less painful to accomplish. AdSense channels are one area where it's really easy to go overboard with stats. You can set up URL channels to compare how one website is doing to another. You can also set up sub channels for each URL. If you wanted to you do something channels like this:

Makes things pretty confusing, so decide if you really want that level of reporting detail?TIP: At the very least you want to know what URL is generating the income so be sure to enter distinct URL channels.

I’ve heard it said, and even seen it written, that blogging is better than SEO for getting traffic. Are blogging traffic or SEO traffic generation techniques better for you, or does it not really matter?

Actually, a lot depends on you and which you like best: blogs or traditional websites, and also what you want the traffic for. I also wonder why the distinction is being made, since anybody serious about internet marketing and getting plenty of traffic, will use both. There is really no need to choose one or the other. However, when I hear such arguments I get the feeling that it is more academic than which provides the more traffic. Feelings, however can be wrong, so it is worth discussion.

When you think about it, the type of traffic you get from a blog could very well have different needs and interests to those that reached your site after carrying a search on Google or Yahoo using specific keywords. OK, you can get to blogs from search engines also, and through the use of keywords, but if you are looking to buy something you wouldn’t normally log onto a blog, would you?

Let’s say you wanted the best price for a gross of Titleist golf balls, you wouldn’t visit a blog site. Similarly if wanted to discuss their benefits, you would go to a blog or a forum. Sometimes it gets difficult to tell the difference these days, since blogs are becoming increasingly more interactive, but you get my general drift. I hope!

With a blog you can advertise whatever you want to, and the same is true of a website. However, you are more likely to make a direct purchase from a website, and to seek information from a blog. Hence, the traffic you get on a blog are information seekers and those on your website may also be looking for info, but might also be wanting to make a purchase. So right away we can kind of separate blog readers from website visitors.

It’s not a well defined separation, but bloggers tend not to be looking for something different to what a search engine user is looking for. If you have a blog on your website, your blog page will be likely to attract prospects that will tend to be more regular visitors than those that are checking out your website. If the latter don’t respond to your opt-in form, you will be unlikely to see them again, but a visitor to your blog page might return frequently.

However, to return to the question: what is better, blog traffic or SEO traffic, as long as each is free it doesn’t really matter I would have thought. I suppose that it could be argued that the SEO traffic is more focussed because they have used your specific keywords to get to the page they landed on ,and blog traffic could come from ezines and other sources that are perhaps not specific to any product you are selling. Me, I would accept any traffic no matter where it came from, and quite frankly once the traffic gets to your webpage it is up to you to convert it to sales.

The difference between the two is that if you don’t make an immediate impact with the SEO visitors, you could be struggling to keep them returning to your website, but you are likely to have more time with the bloggers, since they tend to keep coming back to the blog. The SEO visitors might register with your opt-in page, but that only allows you to keep in contact with them, and you still have to try to induce them to return to your website.

On the other hand, the blog readers need no such inducement, since they visit your site each time you publish a new posting. That is assuming that your blog is on your own website, and not on the blog server as many (perhaps most) are.

Perhaps I am completely on the wrong track, but I will keep tabs on it and report on my website what my findings are regarding blog traffic and SEO traffic, and whether or not one tends to buy more that the other. It is useful to know, since for a website that is designed to sell products it can determine whether or not it is worth having a blog on your site or keep trying to improve your SEO.

That is a big decision to make, and if it could make the difference between success and failure then it should be determines mathematically and scientifically rather than by conjecture and opinion. It is scientific testing that frequently makes the difference between those that are successful in internet marketing and those that fail.

Blog Post Or Publish As Article?

Being that viral marketing is all the rage and highly effective at passively spreading the word on your opinion, or for promotional purposes, article writing has grown in popularity amongst internet marketers. Considering the amount of time and 'labor' it takes to research, organize, and compose an article, the million dollar question here is how to 'maximize' the return off your efforts. Plainly speaking, how can you use an article you toiled over for not only 'publication purposes' via RSS but also for your own blog post and side step the duplicate content policies?

Well one approach you can follow without violating any policies would have you make a blog post first and assuming that you've pinged all the directories, wait 24 hours and then submit your article to as many directories as you wish. This way the directories would already recognize you as being the author.

Another approach would be to include the url of your blog in the resource box, (about the author) of your submission to the article directories. With this back link to your blog , the original content is now being referenced and you're 'covered'.

At this point lets 'step back' and look at yet another approach which, in my opinion, would address exactly what it is we're trying to accomplish.

When submitting to article directories, there's a certain protocol that needs to be followed or your article will not get published. The length of your article is one factor directories consider. Referencing other sources of information such as websites within your article is also a negative factor that directories will frown upon.

When making a blog post you can make it as long or as short as you please. Adding personal insights or url's is also your choice. It is after all your blog. If you are so inclined and feeling passionate enough about your posting you can even go into a 'Dennis Miller' rant.

My suggestion is this: compose the post for your blog first with all the 'personality', insight, and references you may want to add. Then after allowing the 24 hours for your post to 'circulate' submit to the article directories a 'recomposed' version of your post. This 'new' version may mean 'cleaning up ' the posting by removing any included references, altering it length accordingly, and rewording it to make it more appealing to the more mainstream readers you encounter through article publication as opposed to readers of your more personalized blog.

Adopt the mindset that one is a casual blog posting while the other is an article which generally is more structured.

Reworking your post should take minimal effort since you've already got the content laid out and the end result will be that although the general content of both will be similar it's doubtful that it would be viewed as 'duplicated' content. With a minimal amount of effort you've insured that both your blog post and your article are appealing to their respective targeted audiences getting you maximum results for your efforts!

As a relatively new blogger its, coming up for my second full month of my journey towards becoming a successful and profitable blogger. The only way we can become successful is to carve our own path, and for me that means I have drastically reduced the amount of time I spend reading the big blogs. I don't want to subconsciously or purposely, for that matter copy them. There is so many good new up and coming blogs out there in blog land which I feel will one day surpass the great well known bloggers of today.

The number 1 reason I feel why comments are left on blogs is link building and building traffic. Nothing wrong with that, but when it is obvious that the person hasn't even read the dam article and is leaving their mindless comments for the sole purpose or I should say vain hope that someone visits their own site. Why the heck am I going to visit your site when you leave a comment such as, "well written article, great stuff, keep up the good work". I feel that any blog owner should be proactive and delete such comments that are clearly a waste of time.

Keywords are what searchers type into Google (or some other search engine) in order to find the information they are seeking. It is of the utmost importance that you target the right keywords with your blog and marketing campaign. If you fail to target the right keywords (like most of us did when we were new) then you will put lots of effort into your blog for nothing. Picking the wrong keywords can result in not getting traffic to your blog or, even more of a killer, getting traffic to your blog but not converting that traffic in to sales.

There are top level keywords and long tail keywords. Top level keywords are quite broad. Something like "credit cards" or "musical instruments" or perhaps "make money online" -these are all quite broad. Someone could type in 'musical instruments' for any number of reasons. These broad, top level keywords generally have lots of searches per month. Lots of traffic to be had if you can harness it. The problem with top level keywords is that they are extremely tough and frankly out of reach for most newbies.

On the other hand a 'long tail' keyword is actually more like a phrase. Something like "musical instruments for sale in Jackson Mississippi" is a long tail keyword. These are the kinds of keywords a newbie should target. They have much less competition because they have much less traffic. Yet that is exactly what make long tail keywords a practical choice. It is relatively easy to score a page one ranking for a long tail, and the longer the better!

It is not just about targeting the easiest and longest keyphrases but instead targeting keyphrases that are 'buyers' keyphrases. Tell me, what kind of traffic would you prefer at your site which sells gardening tools? Traffic that comes from people searching "gardening" or traffic that comes from people searching for, "cheap gardening tools near Palmer Massachusetts"...if you picked the latter then you would be picking the money keyword.

The more specific the search, the more ready the buyer is. They have already done their research and are ready to purchase. Words like cheap, discount and any geo targeted search are almost always money searches. By money searches I mean the folks doing the searching have their credit card in their hands and are fully intending to buy.

Why do we tolerate sucky blogs? Maybe we've just come to accept suckage as the way things are. Blogs don't have to suck. Boycott sucky blogs! (then maybe they'll either go away or clean up.)

Here are some telltale signs that a blog sucks:

* Autoplay Music: NO! Let ME decide if I want to play the music or not.
* Bloatware: I don't wait for slow loading blogs. Put it on a diet.
* Too much widget clutter: It looks like a teenager's room. Clean it up!
* Content free: All embedded You tube videos and links or (worse) plagiarized articles. Be original or at least take articles that you're authorized to take.
* Hurdles: Popups, peel aways, and splash screens are not cool. Ditch them.
* Poor writing: Learn proper grammar and spelling. 1337speak and/or lolcatese is never appropriate.
* Lacks focus: Growing Kumquats in Denmark should be about growing kumquats in Denmark.
* Hard sell: You are all about selling before you give me a reason for buying. Build credibility and expertise first.

5. Get back to the basics. Remember the reason you started the blog to begin with and refocus your mind. Don't base everything off Alexa rankings and traffic. If your content is there your profits will not be far behind!

To really make your blog powerful, you will need to add some plug-ins. You can find a great list of plug-ins if you do a Google search. What this means is you really don't have nothing to lose but the time you spent blogging.

When I spoke at the Monterey Bay Consultants Group in April about blogging, I remember one of the questions asked from the group was, "Who has time to check and read all of these blogs?" It was a great question. I answered the question with my method of deciding which blog posts to read and that is by looking at my RSS feed. Some of the members of the group had no idea what I was talking about. I then took the opportunity to explain to them what it is and how I use it.

Let me break it down as simple as possible for you here:

RSS stands for "Real Simple Syndication" and people use "RSS feeds" to distribute and gather information from throughout the Internet. If you have content on your website or blog that you are continually updating, you can set up an RSS feed for the information. Subscribers to your RSS feed can then receive your updates via their "RSS feed reader". That still sounds confusing doesn't it? Let me go further into it...

Let's say you are into celebrity gossip and you love to know what's going on all the time (I know, it's shallow - but the best example I could think of that the majority of readers can relate to). Every day you visit PerezHilton.com, popsugar.com, tmz.com and many of the other celebrity gossip sites. You could spend all day sifting through the many posts and all the content to get to the information that you personally are interested in. With an RSS feed reader, you could be updated continually with the posts from all of the sites in one place and click on only the ones you would like to read.

I'm sure you've seen the standard orange "RSS" symbol. Usually, where you see that symbol, that's where you'll click to "Subscribe" to a feed. When you subscribe to a feed, you can then send the feed to your "Reader".

"Readers" are also known as "Feed Aggregator", "Feed Reader", "News Reader" or just "Aggregator". These readers are web applications or software, which aggregate syndicated web content including podcasts, blogs and news headlines all in one location so you can easily view them.

I currently use Google Reader. It lets me know when the blogs that I read have new posts and I can choose which ones to click on and read the stories I am interested in. The "site feed" section creates your RSS feed. This allows me, or a webmaster in Hong Kong, or one of your site's loyal visitors, to receive your posting on their website, on their browser, or in a desktop aggregator. This is the syndication part of the RSS/Blogging process.

You want to publish your site feed, if you are hoping that your content will show up on other people's websites, or if you are using the blog as a substitute for an email newsletter. Even if you don't publicize your feed URL, you may want to set up an RSS feed to use on your own webpages.

You can choose short descriptions or full descriptions. This affects how much of your post will appear on other websites or in your subscriber's aggregator program. My philosophy is that short description, if written well, will get readers interested enough to click on the linked headline. This will bring reader back to your website. A full description publishes your entire post on the other website. It's ok to do it that way if you want to.

There are hundreds of blogging networks available on the internet that will pay you for every article that you write for them. You can earn from $5 to $500 per article with these blogging networks.

To get money making opportunity from any of blogging network, you will need to submit your best blog that has some real Alexa ranking and Good Google page rank. Once you submit your blog details on these blogging networks, you can expect some money making opportunities from them.

And when you get an opportunity to write an article for these networks, you will be asked to write a review about the advertiser’s product or service with link back to their services. Most of the time, you will be asked to write a positive review about the advertisers services.

3. Smorty - is another paid blogging option fro bloggers can earn from to few hundreds per post depending upon their page rank and Alexa rankings. To apply for this network, your blog must be 3 months old at last and also should be indexed by major search engines.

4. Payperpost - is a big opportunity for the bloggers to make money from their blogs. To be included in this network, your blog don’t need a real page rank or Alexa Ranking. And if your blog have some real pr and Alexa rankings, that will be more beneficial for you.

5. ReviewMe - as the name indicates, bloggers are paid for reviewing advertiser’s products and services here. Bloggers will find difficulty in getting their blogs approved here as they have some difficult conditions, our blogs should satisfy like

Seven tips for make money from your BLOG.

1. Comment on Other Blogs:- Target popular blogs in your niche on which to comment. It's an obvious point, which is why it's listed first.

I'd even go a step further though and say, comment on the posts on that blog that already have a lot of comments. Note that this may not necessarily be the most recent post on that blog.

When I visit a blog, I usually read the first few comments and the last few. If you're commenting on a popular post that's a few weeks old, you may very well be one of the last people to leave a comment, so your comment has a good chance of being read.

Note that this may take a little digging into the blog at hand, but is well worth the effort. Fear getting lost among all the other commenter's? It's the nature of the beast I'm afraid, so don't let this worry you. The point is to leave high-quality posts on top-rated blogs in your niche. Eventually, it will pay off over time. This leads me to my next tip . . .

2. In depth posts:-Don't leave skimpy posts,eg, Way to go or Great post As Jennifer at catalystblogger.blogspot.com wrote in her1/4/08 post, Don't Be a comment whore: Attract traffic not annoyance.

"Consider each comment you make to be a tiny "teaser" for the type of writing you do on your blog. write something interesting and thoughtful that adds to the discussion. Most readers will ignore a link from a nice post comment, especially something interesting, entertaining or thoughtful, you'll definitely make people want to read more"

Marketing is a marathon, not a sprint. Many leave short posts just to "get their name out there". This type of blog commenting though is like spending your marketing dollars in the wrong place. If you're going to employ blog commenting as a form of blog marketing, make the most of it.

I can't tell you how many times someone has written to me because they read a comment i wrote on another blog. Taking 5 minutes to write a decent comment will pay off huge over time.

Jennifer makes another crucial point in this same post. She writes: "Leaving comments isn't just about getting your link up in as many places as possible. It's also about introducing yourself to a community."

Blog commenting helps to build your reputation. Enough comments--over time-- on the right blogs will build a rock solid reputation you can leverage for years to come.

Isn't a few minutes of your time worth that?

3. Use the right name:- What do I mean? On most blogs, they ask you for your name, email address and URL of your website/blog before you're able to leave a comment.

The name you type in will be the hyperlink to the URL you type in. Unless most know you by your name, don't use it.

When you log in and are asked for your "Name," type in the name of your website/blog. You can use your name in your signature at the end of your comment .

4. Use a signature:- As in, leave an in-depth signature on all of your blog posts. I recently started to use the following:

NOTE: Some will delete the P.S., some will let it stay. I say it never hurts to include it. Almost all though will leave any website URLs that appear after your name.

FYI, this is why it's doubly important to leave in-depth posts as well. Adding something meaningful to a discussion lets the webmaster/blogmaster know that you've invested time in their dialogue, not just used their space to advance your interests.

5. Marketing success by the numbers:- One Saturday, I left comments on 10 blogs.

If I did this every week for a year, that would be over 500 comments on other blogs (10 x 52/weeks = 520). I think of it this way, I'm introducing my brand to over 500 new markets in a year's span. Not to shabby.

And, think, this type of marketing "goes viral." IE, others will visit your site and link to you and on and on and on. This is the type of marketing that pays huge dividends over time.

I'm a big believer in marketing success by the numbers? What is it? As explained here, "It's a process whereby you do the same thing on a consistent basis over a period of time. This system will lessen your workload, increase your sales, generate new leads and save you money. When you start marketing on a consistent basis, you are constantly drawing new customers into your fold."

6. Post on your own blog:- So far, we've discussed commenting on the blogs of others. Don't forget to write a post for your own blog.

Don't feel like a full-fledged post? Then find a hot topic in your niche that's been written about elsewhere and simply write a short opinion on it.

Whatever you do, don't post rubbish (remember your reputation, as discussed in Tip No. 2). If you're not going to go in-depth, a "food for thought" posting like this protects your reputation.

A side advantage of this type of posting: search engine recognition. Linking to high-trafficked post only helps you in the long run.

7. Link back to your blog:- As in, when you are commenting on the blogs of others, where possible, link back to a post on your blog that discusses the same topic.

This makes it easy for readers really interested in that topic to click over to your blog. Blog readers who follow links are really highly pre-qualified customers. And, if you happen to be promoting a product around that post topic, you're much more likely to make a sale.

Again, this is yet another reason to write in-depth posts on relevant topics in your niche.

BLOG Publishing

If you publish your test post and nothing happens, it's probably because your FTP path or other setting is not correct. You can check your website's control panel to see where your blogger ended up. if it isn't in the folder you intended for it, you'll need to do some tweaking of the Publishing settings. To do that, click on the "settings" tab at the top of the Blogger.com page and then choose "Publishing".

Even if everything works. you'll still want to go to this page. At the bottom of the page is the heading Ping weblogs.com. Select "yes" from the drop down box, and save your settings. This allows your blogger to be announced to this major blogger directory every time you make a new post. This is a good thing.

On the next page. type in your blog title and check the listed radio button. After all, you do want people to find, right?

Type in the URL of your site. Fill in the rest of the text fields with the name you want for your blogger file, and your blogger URL You may wish to use your keyword for the folder's name. In the example below l've named my folder "blog" which happens to be appropriate for my site.

The following settings are the ones that work on my website your own site may have a different FTP path. Your hosting support folks will help you with this if your blog doesn't work with these settings.

The next screen allows you to choose a template. pick one it doesn't matter which one you choose, since you can always change it later, or create your own. Click the button, and you'll see this announcement.
